All students who receive a Faculty Action are strongly encouraged to meet with an undergraduate programs advisor in the Student & Faculty Services Office regarding their situation and their options. However, we have included the regulations below.

First Year Faculty Actions

  • First Year Required to Discontinue

A first year student with a yearly average below 60% (calculated on classes taken between May –April) or who fails 50% or more of the classes they attempt in a year will be Required to Discontinue in the Edwards School of Business for one academic year and will lose credit for classes taken in that year with a grade below 60%.

These students will have an opportunity to repeat (or substitute with permission of the Edwards School of Business) any classes taken that year with a grade below 60% in the Spring & Summer only in an attempt to raise their average to at least 62% to clear the faculty action. If an average of at least 62% is achieved, the Faculty Action is removed and credit is restored for classes with a grade between 50-59%. It is often advantageous for a student to consider repeating more than one class in Spring & Summer in an attempt to raise their average above 62%.

Any student planning to repeat classes in an attempt to clear a Faculty Action is advised to meet with an undergraduate programs advisor in the Student & Faculty Services Office regarding their situation and their options. You are also encouraged to review the

Students who have been Required to Discontinue and are unable to clear their faculty action should review the Supports and Services available to RTD students as well as the Edwards Readmission Standards information.

Upper Year Faculty Actions

  • Upper Year Repeat Year

An upper year student with a “year average” below 60% (calculated on classes taken between May – April) and no previous Faculty Actions on their record will have the Repeat Year Faculty Action placed on their record and will lose credit for classes taken in that year with a grade below 60%. A student in this situation will be able to continue in the Edwards School of Business the following year, but will need to repeat any classes on which they received lower than 60%.

A student in this situation will have an opportunity to remove the Faculty Action by repeating (or substituting with permission of the Edwards School of Business) any classes taken that year with a grade below 60% in the Spring & Summer only in an attempt to raise their yearly average to at least 62%. If an average of at least 62% is achieved, the Faculty Action is removed and credit is restored for those classes with a grade between 50-59%.

  • Upper Year Required to Discontinue

An upper year student with a “year average” below 60% (calculated on classes taken between May-April) who has a previous Faculty Action on their record from any College will be Required to Discontinue in the Edwards School of Business for at least two academic years and will lose credit for classes taken in that year with a grade below 60%. These students will not have an opportunity to attend Spring & Summer session in an attempt to clear their faculty action.

Any upper year student who fails 50% or more of the classes they attempt in a year will have the Required to Discontinue Faculty Action placed on their record.

    • If it is their first faculty action they will be Required to Discontinue for one academic year.
    • If it is their second faculty action they will be Required to Discontinue for at least two academic years.

Students who have been Required to Discontinue and are unable to clear their faculty action should review the Supports and Services available to RTD students as well as the Edwards Readmission Standards information.

Warnings for Part-time Students

  • Partial Warning

An Edwards School of Business student (first year or upper year) who attempts fewer than 18 credit units with a “year average” below 60% (calculated on classes taken between May – April) will be assigned a Partial Warning. In this situation no official faculty action is assigned, but the grades from that year will “carry forward” to the next year.

When the student has attempted 18 or more credit units an average will be calculated to the end of that academic year that includes all grades retroactive to the year in which the partial warning was assigned. If the calculated average is below 60% then an appropriate action will be taken at that time.
